I am a full-fledged history geek and language addict. (There, I said it…The first step is admitting you have a problem.)
History is my passion. I relish past facts and events like others savor fine wines. While some may find it a little dry to their taste, I find history robust and full-bodied.
Comprehending and dissecting language is also an obsession. I am so fixated on etymology that I even research the origin and meanings of family surnames, letter by letter, and post them in this blog. (Oh yeah, I have a serious problem. I think my family will be fitting me for a straitjacket soon.)
So, understanding my love of the past and linguistics, you can see why I got such kick out of The History of English in Ten Minutes. (It’s more like 11 minutes, 13 seconds, but who’s counting?)
This video is a witty walk—okay, a satirical sprint—through the development and mutation of the English language. You will either enjoy this film or will recommend me for the funny farm. (Fingers crossed for the former.)
